The Moroccan Abdelati Iguider won the 3000 meters steeplechase event of the ninth edition of the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athlétism, third station of the Diamond League tour, disputed, on Saturday, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium of Rabat.

Running the 3000 meters steeplchase optional event, Abdelati Iguider made it to the finish line in 7.36.85 time and hence making the year’s best performance.

«The race went good, especially with a warm crowd. Although it's not my speciality, I did well», said the middle distance runner, adding that his goal was to cheer audience.

Iguider improved the old record (07 :45.80) held by the Bahraini Bahreini Zouhai Aouad since last April 30.

The second place went to the Azerbaijan Hayle Ibrahimov (07 :37.76, while the third place  was taken by the Spanish Adel Mechaal (07 :39.51).

«Regardless of the fierce concurrence with athletes with good records I tried to do my best. I am hopping to keep the good performance until the olympic games», affirmed Iguider.

190 athletes, representing 49 countries, competed in the 9th edition of the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athlétisme, the latter is the first competition of the Diamond League tour to take place in Africa.
